Organisation settings: Developmental domains

This article explains how developmental domains are used in Goalspot and how to add, edit, delete and re-order domains.

How are developmental domains used in Goalspot?

Developmental domains are categories used to group goals based on the area of skill development they relate to. For example Receptive Communication, Play and Fine Motor.

Each organisation can create, edit, or rename domains to suit their service, team, and terminology used with families and funders.

Where are domains used?

You’ll see developmental domains when:

  • Creating or editing goals
  • Browsing the Goal Library
  • Progress reports
  • Viewing a client’s goal set

Key things to know:

  • Domains help with filtering and organising a large Goal Library.
  • You can rename domains to match the language your team uses.
  • You can change the order in which domains are displayed in Organisation Settings (see here)
  • Changes to a domain name only apply to newly created goals. Existing goals will retain the original domain name at the time they were created, unless updated manually.

How do I add/edit/delete a developmental domain?

You can do all of this in Organisation Settings, as shown in this video:

How can I change the order in which developmental domains are displayed?

You can customise the order in which domains are displayed in Organisation Settings. The app will shown domain by the Domain Order field from smallest to largest number (1 to 99).

See this video for how to edit the domain order.

What happens to goals that have a primary domain that I have renamed or deleted?

When you rename or delete a domain, any goals already assigned to that domain will remain in your Goal Library. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • These goals will still be in your library, but the domain they were originally assigned to will no longer be available for filtering.
  • To find these goals, you’ll need to scroll through all goals or use the keyword search (e.g., by goal title or code).
  • You may want to update these goals to reflect your current domain names. You can do this by editing the goal templates in your Goal Library.
